How we handle data

Privacy Policy

The short version: the numbers you type into a DailyCalc calculator are never transmitted to us. Every calculation — your weight, salary, loan balance, date of birth — runs inside your own browser in JavaScript and disappears when you close the tab.

The only personal data we ever receive is what you deliberately send us through the contact form. This policy explains that in full, and what rights you have over it.

1. Who we are

DailyCalc ("we", "us") operates this website and the calculators published on it. For the purposes of UK GDPR and the EU GDPR, we act as the data controller for the limited personal data described below. You can reach us at any time through our contact page, which is also the route for exercising any of the rights set out in section 8.

2. Calculator inputs are never collected

This is the most important clause in this document. Every calculator on DailyCalc is implemented as client-side JavaScript. When you enter a weight into the BMI calculator, a salary into the loan calculator, or a birth date into the age calculator, that value is held in your browser's memory, used to compute a result, and then discarded. It is not posted to a server, not written to a database, not logged, and not shared with any third party.

A practical consequence: we genuinely cannot recover your previous calculations, and we cannot produce them if asked to by anyone else, because they never existed on our side.

3. What we do collect

  • Contact form submissions — your name, email address, chosen topic and message. You provide these knowingly when you write to us.
  • Standard server logs — when any browser requests a page, the hosting infrastructure records the request (IP address, timestamp, requested URL, user agent) for security, abuse prevention and uptime diagnostics.
  • Aggregate, non-identifying usage counts — for example, how many times a page was served. These are not tied to individuals and are not used to build profiles.

4. Why we process it, and our lawful basis

Contact form data is processed on the basis of legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f) UK GDPR): you have asked us a question and we have a legitimate interest in answering it. We use the data for one purpose only — to read, investigate and reply to your message, and where you report a calculation error, to verify and correct the affected page.

Server logs are processed on the basis of legitimate interests in keeping the service secure, available and free from abuse. We do not use logs for advertising or profiling.

5. What we never do

  • We do not sell, rent or trade personal data. There is no commercial market in which your data is offered.
  • We do not run behavioural advertising, retargeting pixels, or ad-network trackers.
  • We do not require an account, and we do not ask for information we have no use for.
  • We do not attempt to re-identify individuals from server logs.

6. How long we keep data

Contact messages are retained for up to 24 months so that we can follow up on reported errors and recognise repeat correspondence, after which they are deleted. If you ask us to erase your message sooner, we will do so — see section 8.

Server logs are short-lived and rotated by the hosting platform on a rolling basis measured in days, not years.

7. Sharing and international transfers

We share personal data only with the infrastructure providers strictly necessary to run the site — hosting and database services acting as our processors under contract. They may process data outside the UK/EEA; where that happens, transfers are covered by the appropriate safeguards, such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or Standard Contractual Clauses.

We will disclose data if compelled by a valid legal order. Because calculator inputs are never received by us, they cannot form part of any such disclosure.

8. Your rights

Where we hold personal data about you, you have the right to request access to it, correction of it, erasure of it, restriction of or objection to its processing, and portability of it. You also have the right to complain to a supervisory authority — in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).

  • To exercise any right, use the contact page and tell us which right you are exercising.
  • We respond within one month, as required by UK GDPR, and we do not charge a fee.
  • We may ask you to confirm the email address used in the original message so we can locate the right record.

9. Children

DailyCalc is a general-audience reference tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has sent us a contact message, tell us and we will delete it.

10. Security

Traffic is served over HTTPS. Contact submissions are validated server-side, protected by a honeypot anti-spam control, and stored in an access-controlled database. No system is perfectly secure, but the surface area here is deliberately tiny: we hold almost no data, which is the strongest privacy control available.

11. Changes to this policy

If we materially change how data is handled, we will update the date at the top of this page and describe the change in plain language. Continued use of the site after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
